More local flavor
The Rogue Valley attracts passionate people looking to make the most of each and every day. Right here in Medford, you’ll have the amenities of a larger city with the conveniences of a small town, with ample shopping, from large grocery stores to many unique and boutique stores wonderful for antique hunting. Convenient access to Interstate 5 takes you to Ashland and the world-famous Oregon Shakespeare Festival, along with inventive, contemporary restaurants, wineries, craft breweries and more. Nearby historic Jacksonville is home to the Britt Music & Arts Festival, which brings both emerging and established high-profile musical acts to the region across multiple genres every summer.

With more than a dozen lakes and several rivers nearby, you’ll never be far from outdoor activity. During scenic kayak trips across still waters, wild jet-boat rides through Hellgate Canyon, or guided rafting excursions through several sections of the Rogue River, you’ll see the banks dotted with sport fishers who have come to experience our world-class salmon, trout, and bass fishing. There’s far too much to do in only one day, and fortunately, Oregon’s numerous campsites and RV parks offer a beautiful home away from home.
For day trips, Southern Oregon features well over 100 incredible trails for hiking, biking, and horseback riding. In the winter, higher-elevation hiking areas conveniently morph into showshoe and Nordic ski wonderlands that show off breathtaking vistas of snow-soft valleys and pined ridges. And for the adventurous, the Mount Ashland ski resort offers hours of groomed runs, moguls, and fresh powder.
Southern Oregon University and other educational institutions in the area offer the chance to continue learning, embracing new ideas and technologies, and staying relevant. To better accommodate curious minds, SOU is an established home of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, which supports classes and activity groups for retirees. OLLI also offers social functions and the ability to audit SOU courses, so you can continue to challenge and enrich yourself intellectually alongside other dedicated students.
